Apple’s Signal Solution: Free cases for everyone

At today’s press conference Jobs fiercely defended the design of the iPhone 4, calling it the best product Apple has ever made. Yet he did admit that the signal issue has become a growing concern. He cited several sources such as Consumer Reports which stated that adding a case around the phone seemed to solve all signal issues, then went on to say that Apple has decided to give all of its customers a free case for their iPhone 4. Customers will be able to purchase the iPhone Bumper case or another 3rd-party case and receive a refund through the Apple website. For customers that already purchased a case, there will be an online refund form that they can fill out, but this only applies to people who bought an Apple case, not a 3rd-party case. The application will be released in the upcoming week, but there was no word on how long it would take to refund customers money.
I guess this was the most practical solution for Apple, especially given that a total recall of the iPhone would have cost them millions of dollars. If I were an iPhone customer (who hasn’t already bought a case) I would be happy with this decision and I guess if you are prospective customer it is now “safe” to buy an iPhone.
