How-To: Extend the Battery Life of your HTC Evo 4G

- Purchase an extended battery – While extended batteries can often increase the size of your phone slightly, be expensive, and sometimes require a new rear cover, they are best way to ensure your battery lasts without having to sacrifice any features/performance aspects of your phone. (Check out this one)
- Turn off features you don’t use – Very few people need to have Wi-Fi, 3G, 4G, and Bluetooth enabled. If you are not in a 4G zone, ensure that you turn off your 4G antenna. It is biggest battery drainer on the EVO 4G. Similarly if you are not in the presence of a Wi-Fi network or do not have a Bluetooth headset connected to your phone, turn those features off also. All of these features can easily be accessed through the “Settings” menu under the “Menu” button of your Android.
- Adjust Screen Brightness –
Also easily accessed through the “Settings” menu is the option to control your display brightness. One option is to have your screen brightness auto-adjusted by the phone its self. This is a great feature that ensures your phone is not wasting energy on being “bright” when you are in a dark room. However if you really want to be an energy hog you can turn the auto-adjust feature off and turn the brightness down to one of the lowest settings. - Root your phone and down-clock your processor – If you have the know-how you always have the option of down-clocking your phone’s processor. I don’t know many people that would actually do this, but it is a reasonable option if you really want to squeeze every last minute out of your battery. The EVO typically runs at 1GHz, so you can slow it down to less than that. A more reasonable set a clocking program to down-clock your EVO anytime it is put to sleep. This means that when you are using the phone it will run at 1GHz, but when it is in your pocket it will run at a slower speed.
