Preview: Samsung Galaxy S, err sorry I meant Vibrant, or was it Fascinate? no it was Captivate!

The Phone
Pros: Great 4″ Super AMOLED screen, Android Market, and features
Cons: Names can get a little confusing, and there is no camera flash sadly.
Summary: A terrific phone that will be available for all. Got an upgrade coming soon? Definitely use it on this if you don’t mind the lack of flash for the camera.
With the advent of Samsung’s new flagship phone, it seems that Samsung is staying in the Android game in lue of its development of the Bada Open source mobile platform. The phone is soon to be debuted in the United States under an astonishing four names. It will be the Vibrant on T-mobile, the Fascinate on Verizon, the Captivate on ATT, and the Epic 4g on Sprint. Yes these are all the same phones, but they all look slightly different from each other. Perhaps Samsung is trying to add to the uniqueness factor for their buyers, or maybe they just simply went insane.
Under the skin of all these phones, (Vibrant, Fascinate, Epic 4g, and Captivate) is the Galaxy S core. In the UK the Galaxy S is already on sale. So what is so special about this phone? Well here are the specs in a nutshell. A 4″ Capacitive Super-AMOLED screen (800 x 480), a 1 GHz Cortex A8 Hummingbird, 8 GB or 16 GB of internal storage, a 5MP camera and a bevy of accessories that are now becoming the norm. Luckily for anyone that wants this phone on Sprint, it will also be paired with a keyboard and their amazingly fast 4g network.
This phone will launch with Android 2.1 (Eclair) and will obviously be able to upgraded to 2.2 (Froyo) in the future. Yes, Samsung’s Touchwiz 3.0 UI will be on top of Eclair but it seems to barely make any significant changes over stock Eclair. So what does all this mean? Well it’s got the perfect screen size for all of you that thought the HTC HD2 or Evo 4g was ginormous, some nice internal storage for those that thought micro sD cards were not as cool, and the ability to shoot 720 P videos at 30 fps on its brilliant 5 MP camera. Altogether sounds like a pretty amazing phone, and let’s not forget the backing of the ever growing Android Market. Samsung’s Galaxy S (or whatever you want to call it since apparently Samsung feels like the phone deserves a myriad of fronts) does look appealing in all of its skins. Some say it’s the android answer to the Iphone 4g, but let’s get serious here, all of these new phones are starting to seem extremely similar in what they offer and how they are priced. So for the average consumer buying a phone should become a matter of 3 questions:
1) What carrier do you want to be on?
2) Does it do everything you want it to?
3) Does the phone look appealing?
And fortunately for Samsung… they have provided an answer to all of these questions: The Galaxy S… or one of its many other names.
