iPhone 4:First Impressions
My Uncle got his iPhone 4G one day early in the mail and he was over my house today so I got a chance to play with it for awhile. Here are some of my initial impressions:
The glass exterior is really nice, but it is finger print prone and I can only imagine what would happen should you drop it. This phone should be covered with a case, which slightly takes away from the “cool” glass factor. The screen is definitely a step above the old iPhone, but I wish it was a bit bigger. It certainly doesn’t hold a candle to the Evo 4G’s screen. The phone was pretty fast and seemed slightly more responsive then the old iPhone or iTouch. The multitasking was nice, but it was a little annoying that it was limited to only 4 programs. That shouldn’t be a problem for most users though. I did not get to test out the 3G signal because, as usual, AT&T’s network was a complete fail. I did use the wi-fi and it worked nicely. It did not seem any faster or slower then I remember. The last thing I used was the camera and I must admit I was pleasantly surprised. Even though, it is “only” 5-megapixels the quality of the pictures was definitely on par with the Evo’s at least at first impression. This could be a different story should you upload the picture to a computer and observe it at full size. Video recording was nice and crisp, and the front facing camera was also surprisingly clear for a VGA camera. I wish I could have tested out the video chat feature, but I don’t know anyone else that got the phone early.
All and all I think it’s going to be a great phone, but it is no “major” improvement over the old one. It has some nice improvements that people are going to enjoy, but I don’t think it’s necessary to update immediately. The phone feels a bit heaver and denser which I like, but I think I prefer the 3G’s curved shape over the flatness of the 4G. I didn’t get to test out the battery life, so I have no comment there. In the 30-45 minutes I played with it the battery only decreased by a percent or so.
So yea…I guess…Apple fan boys rejoice..you get to spend another year or so bragging (rightfully so or not)
